Habits v. Goals from a Human Design Perspective

For the last few months, I've been yearning for another place to share topics that we love in our community - Human Design, Generator/MG lifestyle, the New Paradigm, and our soul's purpose!

I decided a podcast was the best outlet, and New Paradigm Human was born!

I've recorded a short intro to what I feel is our broader mission right now as humans on Earth (obviously, we all have our own personal purposes) and my first episode, which I'm very excited about!

In this first episode, we're talking about goals versus habits (inspired by the book Atomic Habits by James Clear) and how they serve us as Generators and Manifesting Generators.

You can find the podcast on AppleSpotifyPodcast Addict, and more! Remember to subscribe, so you always know when I upload new episodes!

Here are some of my key takeaways from the book as a Sacral Being:

  • For us, goals are not as powerful as habits. This book clarifies that goals are at odds with long-term progress because a goal-oriented mindset can create a "yo-yo effect." Once we hit our goal, we stop the behaviors driving results for us, and we're no longer motivated. After all, we were relying on the motivation of the goal! When we focus on a goal without engaging in the joy of our process, we often end up frustrated.

  • The best way to achieve something is to really enjoy what we're doing. There are usually many ways to reach a goal. If you want to get fit, there are many ways to exercise. If you're going to build a business, there are a million different income streams you could choose. The most effective one will be the one that energizes and satisfies you (and not the one you think you should do to hit your goal).

  • Don't underestimate each step you take, even if it doesn't yield immediate results. Depending on your design, you may move faster or slower. Each approach is valid.

As humans, we're naturally impatient. So, when we start a new habit, and we don't see results right away, we want to quit. However, our efforts have to add up to finally hit a tipping point. Manifesting Generators require expansion into different areas before things finally come together. For Generators, it involves a lot of consistent action toward mastery. His example is how ice doesn't melt until it hits 32 degrees and above. So, you can start at zero degrees and raise the temperature by one degree each time. It looks like nothing's happening! However, at 33 degrees, a massive shift will happen, and the ice will melt. If the process feels good and we're enjoying what we're doing, we shouldn't stop! Eventually, we will hit that tipping point.
